Cove Cup weekend


 Good morning sailors


It's Cove cup weekend and hopefully you have seen the Notice of race in the website. 

It a bit more formal than they will be because we have some Sonatas visiting and I wanted the arrangements to be clear for them as well as us locals. 

The weather looks acceptable for today , if not the 12 knots and sunshine that May usually brings??. Sunday doesn't look promising sadly, so let's make the most of today 


For food after racing today we have the normal tea, snacks and cake plus we have Rob from Brown Goose coming in to make 45 portions of lasagna which I hope will go down well a little bit later in the evening. 

Timing wise I guess the dinghies will be off the water by 4:30 / 5:00

The Sonatas will be a bit later as we are having an extra race after the dinghies plus the visitors are based at Portland so they will need to get to the club.

Grahame will be opening the bar at 5:30 ish and I can say from first hand experience (last night) that the Dorset Gold goes down well. 

I hope you enjoy the new format for cup races and please feed back any suggestions or ideas so that we can make cup weekends into events that appeal to as many as possible.

Fireworks at Castle Cove. Friday 5th November

Please join us for our annual Fireworks display  on Friday evening. There will be a small bonfire (small because it is COP week) followed by a pyrotechnic marvell orchestrated to music by our very own Jock.  Please bring your own music. There will be hot dogs available to buy and consume on the balcony while you gaze, open mouthed at the spectacle before you.  Timetable. 3pm - Building the fire under the careful supervision of Michael John Abbott 5:30 - 6pm lighting of the bonfire - please bring your own sparklers 7 pm  - Let the fireworks begin.

The Scorpion Nationals story. The Scorpion National Championships 2017 – what a week for club and class, below is a club biased story from this one of the organizers, competitors, members. It seems a while ago now,  but back when July turned into August the club hosted one of the classes that has been a permanent feature at CCSC for many tens of years – the Scorpion – for their week long National Championships. They were returning after a 15year gap, with champs at the club before that in 1996 and 1990.  Testament to the class build quality that 2 out of the 3 previous winning boats were back this year, and someone from all 3 teams was competing in 2017.
