NOR: CCSC Cove Cup and Sonata Invitational 22- 23 May 2021

  1. RULES

    1. The event will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

    2. The Organising Authority implements the RYA Racing Charter. Competitors shall undertake to sail in compliance with the Charter, which can be found at the front of the rule book (Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024) or at www.rya.org.uk/charter .

    3. The class rules for the Sonata and each dinghy type will apply

    4. In the event of any conflict, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

  2. ADVERTISING

    1. This regatta is classified as a category ‘C’ event. (See ISAF regulation 20).

    2. Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority.

  3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

    1. Competitors under the age of 18 years, at the time of the event shall be required to have their registration form signed by their parental/guardian prior to the start of racing.

    2. Entry Forms will not be require. Boats should make their intention to race clear by sailing behind the committee boat before the start of each race.

    3. There is no Entry Fee

    4. Visiting Sonatas will be required to purchase a valid sailing permit from Portland Harbour Authority. These are available online at https://www.portland-port.co.uk/port-and-harbour-dues

    5. All entrants are granted temporary membership of CCSC for the duration of the event and required to comply with the club rules and byelaws as published in the club handbook 2021.



  1. SCHEDULE

    1. Registration: Sonatas may register at the briefing Friday evening and by sailing past the Committee Boat prior to their first warning signal. Cove Cup boats are not required to register.

    2. Competitors briefing for Sonatas will take place on Friday 21st at 7:30 on the club balcony or in the main club room as weather and or Covid restrictions permit.

    3. Cove Cup : Five races are scheduled, intention being back to back. Two races on Saturday and Three on Sunday.

    4. Sonata Invitational : Nine races are scheduled, intention being back to back. Four races on Saturday and Five on Sunday.

    5. The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first Sonata race on Saturday is 12:55 hrs

    6. The scheduled time for the warning signal for the second Sonata race on Saturday is 13:55. The start time for the first race of the Cove Cup (Class 9 dinghies) on Saturday will be 5 mins after the start time for the second race of the Sonatas.

    7. Subsequent races will follow back to back.

    8. The scheduled time of the first warning signal for the first Sonata race on Sunday is 09.55.

    9. The scheduled time for the warning signal for the second Sonata race on Sunday is 10:55. The start time for the first race of the Cove Cup (Class 9 dinghies) on Saturday will be 5 mins after the start time for the second race of the Sonatas.

    10. Subsequent races will follow back to back.



  1. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

    1. The Standard Castle Cove sailing instructions will apply and are available at http://ccsc.org.uk/hidden/handbook.pdf (starting at page 47).

    2. Flag K will be the Class flag for Sonatas

    3. Flag 9 will be the Class flag for Cove Cup dinghies.



  1. THE COURSE

    1. Courses will use Castle Cove permanent marks or will be laid in the waters of Portland Harbour

    2. Sonata courses will be windward leeward

    3. Marks will be indicated on the course board of the Committee boat “Imogen”



  1. COMMUNICATION

    1. The committee boat will be using VHF channel 37A (M1, P1) . Call sign “Imogen”

  1. PENALTY SYSTEM

    1. Decisions of the protest committee will be final as provided in rule 70.4.



  1. SCORING

    1. The low point scoring system of Appendix 'A' will apply.

    2. For Sonatas 9 races are scheduled of which one race shall be completed to constitute a valid series. Each boat’s score will be the total of her race scores with her worst score discarded if all races have been completed.

    3. For Cove Cup dinghies, 5 races are scheduled of which one race shall be completed to constitute a valid series. Each boat’s score shall be the total of her race scores with her worst score discarded if all races have been completed.



  1. SAFETY

    1. Whilst afloat all dinghy competitors must wear adequate personal buoyancy to provide at least 50N of floatation. This replaces rule 40. Wet suits and dry suits are not considered personal flotation devices.



  1. BOAT PARKING

    1. Visiting Sonatas will be berthed at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy



  1. FOOD

    1. Food will be available at the club throughout the weekend. An evening meal will be served in the club on Saturday. To assist in planning please make your requirements known to Richard Bowers (rick.Bowers861440@gmail.com) before Thursday 20th May



  1. PRIZES

    1. Sonatas : Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Race Committee having regard to the number of boats entered. The Prize Giving for Sonatas will take place after the racing finishes on Sunday afternoon at CCSC

    2. Dinghies (Class 9) : Prizes for the Cove cup will be awarded at the annual dinner dance.



  1. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

    1. Competitors participate in the race entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4

    2. A boat is entirely responsible for her own safety, whether afloat or ashore, and nothing, whether in this Notice of race or in the Sailing Instructions or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility.

    3. It is for the boat to decide whether she is fit to sail in the conditions in which she will find herself. By launching or going to sea, the boat confirms that she is fit for those conditions and her crew is competent to sail and compete in them.

    4. The boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular to hold insurance against third party claims as set out in paragraph 15.1 below.

    5. Nothing done by the organisers can reduce the responsibility of the boat nor will it make the organisers responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury, however it may have occurred, as a result of the boat taking part in the racing. The organisers encompass everyone helping to run the race and the event, and include the organising authority, the race committee, the race officer, patrol boats and Beach-masters.

    6. In the event that assistance is rendered to any competitor, no liability for any loss, damage or injury is accepted by CCSC, the Race Committee or the crew of any safety boat.



  1. INSURANCE



15.1 Each boat is required to hold adequate insurance including third-party cover of not less than £3,000,000 and it is the owner or owner's representative's sole and inescapable responsibility to ensure that the insurance is in place and is adequate. No responsibility will be accepted by CCSC, or any other party involved in the organisation of the Race.



  1. RIGHTS AND COPYRIGHT

16.1 By entering and participating in this event, each competitor and his/her supporters automatically grant to the Organising Authority, the National and International Class Associations and the sponsors of the event the absolute right, authority and permission right in perpetuity to make, use, distribute, broadcast, publish and show in any media, at their discretion any motion pictures, still pictures and live, taped or filmed television, audio and video recordings, and reproductions of them and/or their boat/s made during the championship from time to time on and off the water, and of all of his/her material related to the championship (and to identify their name), without compensation.



  1. DATA PROTECTION

17.1 In order to manage the event, information provided by competitors will be held on a database. The management of personal information and images will comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation Legislation that came into effect in May 2018.



  1. CAMPING/PARKING.

18.1 Club bylaw B15.4 Overnight parking and sleeping in campervans, cars and tents is not permitted
