Please join us for our annual Fireworks display on Friday evening. There will be a small bonfire (small because it is COP week) followed by a pyrotechnic marvell orchestrated to music by our very own Jock. Please bring your own music. There will be hot dogs available to buy and consume on the balcony while you gaze, open mouthed at the spectacle before you. Timetable. 3pm - Building the fire under the careful supervision of Michael John Abbott 5:30 - 6pm lighting of the bonfire - please bring your own sparklers 7 pm - Let the fireworks begin.
Sail4All returns on Saturday 10 July (14.00) after a break for the Weymouth Dinghy Regatta. A free sail with safety boat and beachmaster support, next week's Sail4All will present our confidence building sailors with an opportunity to witness a demonstration of capsize recovery and the support that can be provided by a safety boat in attendance. The demonstration (and Golden Globe winning repartee) will be delivered by our resident RYA Senior Instructor, Mick Church, within plain sight of the CCSC pontoon. Even if you are not one of our confidence builders, you may find the demonstration worthwhile. If you would like to practise your capsize recovery drill under Mick's supervision, let him know after the demonstration and your wish will be his command. If you wish to get ahead of the game, a short brief on capsize recovery including some illustrative videos may be found HERE
Sail4All on Saturday 17 July (14.00 on the water) maintains July's "safety" theme for our confidence builders, with "Man Overboard" recovery. Please click on the LINK to open a short briefing on the RYA's favoured Reach/Tack/Reach method for recovering a man overboard from a dinghy, and an excellent video of Dame Shirley Robertson demonstrating the technique. Single-handers may think this doesn't apply to them; however, the technique does practise boat handling skills that often apply in other scenarios (e.g. coming alongside, picking up a mooring or even recovering gear that has fallen overboard). Sail4All remains a free sail on a non-race day with safety boat cover and beachmaster support. Full details of Sail4All and its embedded confidence builder themes may be found on the club website training page ( http://www.ccsc.org.uk/training ). Come and join us.
